Privacy Policy

Psalms Studio ("we") is a free app for musicians, with an optional Pro subscription. We collect as little as we can. We show no ads of our own (YouTube videos may include ads from YouTube), and there is no tracking, no analytics SDKs and no account to create. We never sell your data.
What stays on your device
Your songs, chord edits, setlists, lyrics and notes, recordings and Studio projects are stored on your iPhone. Audio you add from Files, the Music library or your Camera Roll is copied into the app's private storage. Microphone recordings stay on your iPhone unless you analyze them.
Audio you analyze
Chords are worked out on your device, and the song's audio stays with you. To check whether a song already has chords checked by hand, the app sends our server a sound fingerprint of the song (numbers that describe its sound; they can't be played back as the song). The fingerprint isn't stored and isn't linked to your name. On the free plan, we keep the fingerprints of your free songs only to count them.
When you get chords for a YouTube video, the audio is analysed on our server instead and deleted within 24 hours.
YouTube
YouTube videos in Psalms Studio play through YouTube's own player (YouTube API Services). When you use them, you also share information with YouTube and Google, who may use cookies and show ads; see the Google Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service.
To find a video's chords, our server uses its audio only for the analysis and deletes it within 24 hours. If you share corrections or request a review for a video, the checked chords and audio features from it may help improve our chord detection. We never ask for your Google or YouTube sign-in.
Requesting improved chords
If you tap Request Improved Chords, your recording, its title and artist, and any note you write are sent to the Psalms Studio team so a musician can check the chords. The recording is deleted once the request is handled. The checked chords may then be offered to other users who add the same recording. After review, the checked chords and audio features computed from the recording (not the recording itself) may be used to improve Psalms Studio's chord detection.
Your contributions
Chord corrections you mark as verified may be shared anonymously with the Psalms Studio community and used to improve our services. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy.
Reports
If you report a song, we receive the song's title, your message and, if you give it, your email address, so we can reply. Copyright notices require an email address.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Apple. We only receive the purchase details Apple provides to unlock Pro and credits, never your payment information.
Device identifier
On first use the app receives a random access token from our server, stored in your iPhone's Keychain. It is not linked to your name or Apple ID, and is used only to keep the service fair (for example, a daily analysis limit). Network addresses are used briefly for the same purpose and are not stored in logs.
Permissions
- Music library: to list songs you own so you can choose one. Only the song you choose is copied.
- Photos: the system picker gives the app only the video you pick; only its sound is kept.
- Microphone: for the tuner and for recordings you choose to make.
- Local network: only to connect to a Psalms Listen server on your own Wi-Fi, if you set one up.
Children
Psalms Studio is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Your rights
Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 and similar laws you may ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Delete a song in the app to remove it from your iPhone. For anything held on our server, email [email protected].
